Rome, 1 August 2024 – Poste Italiane's ground and air fleet will run on biofuels supplied by Enilive, Eni's company dedicated to mobility services and products. This will accelerate Poste Italiane’s progress towards achieving its energy transition and carbon neutrality goals set for 2030. Giuseppe Lasco, General Manager of Poste Italiane, and Giuseppe Ricci, Energy Evolution Chief Operating Officer at Eni, have signed a Letter of Intent to start a collaboration based on the supply of biofuels produced in Enilive's biorefineries by processing waste materials such as used cooking oils, animal fat and by-products from the agri-food industry. Under the agreement, Enilive will supply HVOlution (a diesel produced from renewable feedstock*) for road transport. HVOlution is available at over 1,000 Enilive service stations across Italy and its supply will be managed through Multicard commercial card service. For air transport, the collaboration involves the supply of JET A1+Eni Biojet at selected national airports in Italy. The fuel’s Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) component is produced by Enilive from 100% biological sources, and can be blended up to 50% with conventional jet fuel.

"This collaboration with Enilive marks a new chapter in our integration of ESG principles into our business strategy," said Giuseppe Lasco, General Manager of Poste Italiane. "It allows us to power our fleet, which is the largest in the country, with biofuels, a solution that will enable us to reduce our use of fossil fuels more and more rapidly. The agreement will support our environmental policies and help drive the reduction of our carbon footprint, contributing to the green transition of the economy."

"The signing of this agreement marks the beginning of a collaboration between Enilive, the company established by Eni to maximise the value of mobility products and services, and Poste Italiane, a company of exceptional importance within Italy, that shares our common goal of contributing to the decarbonization of road and air transport through the use of biofuels", said Giuseppe Ricci, Energy Evolution Chief Operating Officer at Eni. “The facilities and technologies we have developed over the past decade enable Enilive to produce the quantities of HVOlution and SAF required to meet market demands and, for air transport, to comply with regulations such as the EU's ReFuelEU, which aims to progressively increase the adoption of SAF to 70% by 2050."

The agreement between the two companies, both partly owned by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, aims to support Italy’s energy transition in line with the environmental priorities of Poste Italiane's strategic plan. This includes replacing its entire fleet with more sustainable vehicles and achieving carbon neutrality by 2030, bringing forward the already ambitious 2050 targets set by European regulations.

The agreement may be followed by further binding agreements to be entered into by the parties in accordance with applicable regulations, including those governing related party transactions.
